The Hall
With 11 bedrooms, the entire Palladian house can be hired for exclusive use for special celebrations just six times a year. Providing a truly unique setting for unforgettable experiences.
THE HALL
The hall stands in great position facing south overlooking the park designed by Charles Bridgeman in the 18th century with its 10 acre lake and set in 500 acres of fields and woodland.
Designed by Thomas Ripley, Wolterton Hall is inspired by Andrea Palladio, the classical architect from Vicenza. Its plan - which has all the rooms set around two staircases - is lit overhead by roof lights and the parade of rooms around the house are typically Palladian as is the enormous arched window in the Venetian Room.
The State rooms all have original marble fireplaces carved by Richard Fisher of York as well as intricately moulded cornices and ceilings. The American walnut for all the doors was a gift from Queen Caroline to Horatio. The floors are mostly original oak boards or stone.

Ground floor rooms
Entrance Hall: The front door leads into the stone vaulted entrance hall which leads on to a magnificent staircase which rises to the roof-light on the second floor as well as to the ground floor rooms:
Library: The original Walpole Library are housed in a mahogany library which leads out to the garden through the 3 sets of sash windows. Also used as a dining room, there are tables and chairs to seat 30 or more people.
Kitchen: South facing room with double aspect and original Georgian fireplace. Smallbone Brasserie kitchen in oak and painted finishes. Fitted with Gaggenau appliances including; fridge/freezer/wine cooler, oven/steam-oven/warming cabinet and 5 burner hob with teppanyaki/charcoal grill.
Picture Room: Double aspect, relaxing media room overlooking lake and west park. Hung with the Sheppard Day collection of 20th century pictures including several important Bloomsbury paintings by Duncan Grant, Roger Fry and Vanessa Bell.
East Hall: Leads out to the Coach house. Designed and decorated in the style of Sir John Soane with a full size 17th century Aubusson tapestry featuring turkeys. Wolterton is the home of the Norfolk Black turkey imported from the USA in the 18th century by Horatio.
STATE ROOMS
The First Floor is a suite of 6 grand state rooms with high corniced ceilings, magnificent fireplaces by Richard Fisher of York, large sash windows and chandeliers
Saloon: Double height and furnished with Brussels 18th century tapestries, Princess Mary’s Persian carpet. Osler chandelier and 18th century gilt furniture and original paintings.
Marble Hall: Double height with Derbyshire marble floor with gilded bronze chandelier and full height carved wooden door cases and moulded panelling.
Dining Room: Recently hung with scarlet wool damask using the same fabric as used at Strawberry Hill in the restoration of Horace Walpole’s house. Georgian crystal chandelier. Regency dining table which seats 12. The Family portrait of Horatio and his family by Amiconi fills the entire west wall. Other walls have royal portraits given by the King.
Venetian Room: Named after the enormous Palladian window which fills the west side of the room and has views over the west park.
The Portrait Room: Portraits of generations of Walpoles line the panelled room including several by important 18th century artists.
Boudoir: The guest room for the Royal or distinguished guest is hung with 17th century Antwerp tapestries on original uncovered panelling with mediaeval painted statues
State Bedroom bathroom: Includes wet room with private lavatory. Magnificent tester bed, and original marble fireplaces in both rooms.
BEDROOMS AND BATHROOMS
The Second Floor. There are 11 bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms on the second floor all positioned around the 2 light wells and with views of every aspect of the park.
Bedrooms: The spacious bedrooms all have fine original fireplaces and grand cornices with sash windows and working shutters. The bedrooms are opulently furnished and include original artworks. They feature pocket sprung Vi-Spring mattresses with Egyptian cotton sheets with goose-down pillows and duvets.
Bathrooms: The bathrooms have all been refurbished to the highest standards with marble vanities, cast iron baths and Hans Grohe rain-showers. Marble, mosaic and with nickel-plated taps feature throughout.
